Beanitos are a tasty, healthy snack option that we have discovered. They are natural, gluten free, and flavorful chips. We had the opportunity to interview the Beanitos Marketing Director, Mike, and asked him all about Beanitos.

Q: What, exactly, is a Beanito? What are the ingredients?

A: Beanitos The Bean Chips are snack chips made from the humble legume (bean). Our original items have 5 simple ingredients: Whole Black or Pinto Beans, Whole Brown and/or White Rice, Sunflower Oil, Sea Salt, and Guar Bean Gum. Our seasoned items are made with Non-GMO project verified seasonings – which mean they are truly natural seasonings – no fillers, preservatives, MSG, or other ingredients you need a dictionary to understand.

Q: What sets Beanitos apart from other chips?

A: Beanitos The Bean Chips are 100% corn and gluten free, made without using genetically modified ingredients. Beanitos contain 2.5 times the Fiber and Complete protein than other corn and potato chips, and are free from trans fat and cholesterol too. They are truly the most innovative snack chip to hit the market in nearly a decade.

Q: How many flavors of Beanitos are there? What are they?

A: Beanitos come in 4 great tasting flavors – Black Bean Original, Pinto Bean & Flaxseed Original, Black Bean Chipotle BBQ, & Pinto Bean Cheddar Cheese.

Q: Where can I buy Beanitos?

A: Beanitos are in over 10,000 stores nationwide and throughout Canada too. Specifically in Colorado you can find Beanitos in King Soopers City Markets, Safeway, Natural Grocers, Albertsons, Vitamin Cottage just to name a few.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about Beanitos?

A: Beanitos has made a mission of educating consumers on why they have a right to know if their food has been genetically engineered. We strongly believe that the FDA should

I look for something that will keep me full while giving me the most nutritional PUNCH for the calories. I like to make my calories count.

I also only eat snacks made in Austin. So Beanitos work for that.

(I kid. I kid.)

Snacks full of protein definitely keep me fueled in between meals – love peanut butter or almond butter with apple slices.

Reply

Tracey April 4, 2012 at 10:13 pm

My eyes always go toward the amount of protein and fiber and then I compare it to the amount of total fat. I also look at the ingredients. I basically look at everything! Hehehe 🙂 that’s what happens when you’re a college student studying to become a dietitian!

I shop for snacks in the produce, bulk, organic/natural, and health sections of grocery stores. The ideal snack will have:
1. moderate levels of carbs, protein and fat. low sodium. gluten free.
2. good sources of carbs (low GI?, fiber?) and fat (healthy?)
3. taste. mouth-feel.
4. portability and resistance to breakage. minimal packaging.

I always look for a good balance of protein and carbs in a snack, without too much sugar. I actually have had beanitos (cheddar cheese flavor) and loved them!

Tamara April 5, 2012 at 9:34 am

I look for fiber and no hydrogenated oils. And great flavor, of course. These would fit the bill quite nicely!

I have never heard of these! They sound super tasty!

If I am going to buy a packaged snack I always look at the ingredients to make sure there aren’t tons of additives. But I must say classic fresh fruit to me is the perfect snack! I am a sucker for chips though. I just can’t help myself!!

I try to choose a snack that has some sort of nutritional benefit, like protein and fiber. If I’m going to eat a snack then it needs to keep my stomach full and satisfied for a while.

I LOVE these chips. I have bought them several times. Added bonus for me- they are gluten free!!

What I look for in my snacks is always first the ingredients for all natural sources and if sugar is high on the list, then calories and servings, then ratio of proteins:fats:carbs, and how much of those carbs are sugar/added sugar.

Reply

Kat @ Balancing Kat April 5, 2012 at 3:59 pm

In my snacks, I tend to look for low sugar, high protein, high fiber with as little ingredients as possible. I have to be able to pronounce the ingredients.

I look for my healthy snacks to have a protein kick along with a small healthy fat content and a few carbs for the perfect combination of slow-burning energy. Generally, I like my snacks to be crispy, so I really get the full effect of the crunching process! I love the idea of a healthy crispy snack that isn’t deep fried and full of unhealthy processed chemicals – natural all the way!

diana@mymarblerye April 8, 2012 at 10:53 am

I always look at fiber!

I look for snacks that have some staying power! Anything with nut butter or hummus or cheese usually does the trick!
